Black Demure

The Bramble is a classic gin cocktail. Why not make it better with bourbon? The addition of Cointreau adds some subtle complement to an otherwise bold drink.

In my opinion, the only shortcoming of this recipe is the over-reliance on lemon juice - an all-to-common flaw. And while we’re making adjustments, let’s up the blackberry as well.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz high-rye bourbon, at least 90 proof

  • 1/2 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon juice

  • 3/8 ounce creme de mure

  • 1/4 ounce Cointreau

  • 1/4 ounce 2:1 demerara syrup

Add all of the ingredients and a few cubes of ice to a shaker and shake until the preferred dilution is reach. Strain over fresh ice.

Garnish with lemon wedge, blackberry. If feeling adventurous, add a few sprigs of mint.
